Support available to all children with SEND
Here at Queenswood the emphasis is on good quality first teaching in and learning support. School staff monitor children's progress regularly and meet their educational needs through differentiated learning objectives, success criteria (steps to success) and tasks pitched to their individual levels or needs.
Sometimes children may simply fall behind or require catch up lessons to bring them back in line with their peers. Interventions are put in place where appropriate to close the gap and help remove barriers to learning.
Types of interventions available include: Phonics Bug, In an Instant Math, Rapid Reading, Rapid Writing, Cool Kids, Word Workshop, Speech and Language Programs, ELKLAN trained staff.
Some children may need support in accessing the curriculum through the use of equipment.Types of equipment available include:sloping board/writing slope, pencil grip, wobble cushions, foot and leg support boards, specialist pens and pencils, coloured overlays or pastel paper, reading rulers, fidget toys or tactile stress balls and ICT equipment
Some of our children have social, emotional and mental health issues. We support these children through in-school interventions specifically designed to address the issues for each individual child which might included anger management, social skills development, daily chats with one of our learning. We also work closely with external agencies including the learning support team, the behavioural support team, and counsellors.
Children with disabilities are supported according to individual needs and support plans would be put in place in consultation with parents and the appropriate health professionals.
Parents are encouraged to attend review meetings and are involved in the planning of any intervention and support work whatever the need of the child.
